Garment care in UAE humidity: steam, suction and fabric survival
Between air conditioning, summer humidity and delicate fabrics, standard ironing is often the wrong tool.

UAE wardrobes face a specific combination of stresses: high outdoor humidity, aggressively dry indoor air conditioning, and a lot of fabric that should never meet a hot metal plate — silk abayas, linen, fine wool suits, embellished pieces.
Why steam alone often disappoints
A standard steamer relaxes fibres with moisture and lets gravity pull the crease out. That works on light cotton and fails on anything with structure, because nothing is holding the fabric taut while the fibres relax. Worse, in humid conditions the garment stays damp long after you have finished.
What suction adds
Pairing suction with steam, as the Jeroma LuftPro does, changes the mechanics. The airflow pulls the fabric flat against the head so the crease is being physically held straight at the moment the fibres are relaxed, then pulls the residual moisture through so the garment is dry enough to wear immediately.
It also refreshes fabrics that cannot be washed frequently — suit jackets, curtains, upholstery and mattresses — using high-temperature steam rather than fragrance.
- Hang the garment and work top to bottom in slow vertical passes.
- Test an inside seam first on silk and heavily embellished fabric.
- Use distilled or filtered water; UAE tap water scales quickly.
- Let the garment hang for a few minutes before wearing.
When to still reach for an iron
A steam and suction system covers most of a working wardrobe. For a razor-sharp trouser crease or a heavily starched dress shirt collar, an iron remains the better tool. Honest tools beat universal claims.
